They think Germany is down and out
Gloating is one of the less pleasant aspects of the typical English soccer fan. They have been conditioned to be at the top of things and if they do not get their way then the can be quite despondent. Pressures on the English team are at fever pitch. It is not entirely surprising that some English fans decided that it was a good idea to gloat over the problems that Germany was facing. Little did they know that they would be brought down by the resilient Algeria? In the event the so called second league team was the better player. A draw was very much a defeat for England because they even talked of goals in double figures. It is such nonsense that loses the team fans in droves. Nobody likes to support a team that is full of itself.
In any case there were thousands of fans that flocked to Cape Town to celebrate Germany??s defeat by Serbia. They even took the time to play African drums. The script was that they would proceed to the game with Algeria where England would thrash the opponents with imperial disdain. How wrong they were? Algeria was not intimidated by the star names and they refused to concede goals even under enormous pressure. Once again England has been bitterly reminded that their premier league players are no good when it comes to international events. They are not the sum of their parts. They are less than the sum of their parts. Something happens when you put the great stars together because they have not performed so far.
Each World Cup we are told by some expert that this is the best team of all and that they have a brand new manager to lead them to victory. We then learn that they are not good at all. They lose to teams that they have no business losing to. The blame game continues until they go to their fat pay checks on the premier league circuit. Some people wonder whether 1966 glory will come back again.
