Life after the excitement of the Soccer FIFA World Cup 2010
It has been a few weeks since the end of the Soccer FIFA World Cup 2010 and now we are coming back to earth with the realization that life goes on and that there is plenty of other football to enjoy in the season. The Asian cup is getting the fans all worked up and then there is the Copa America and the African Cup of Nations. Perhaps Ghana will get the consolation prize for being so near and yet so far from the prize that would have made it the first African country to win the World Cup. The Euros are also round the quarter. However we cannot really get away because the qualification rounds for the 2014 event will also start soon. England has finally come to the realization that they are not quite as good as the media makes them out to be. Perhaps that will give them the courage to play better on the big stage.
The sad tales of Thierry Henry are still with us. So much talent and yet so little character when it really mattered. The horrible cheating incident was absolutely disgraceful and he ought to hang his head in shame. He has then joined the list of Fabio Cannavaro and Gio Van Bronckhorst in those that have decided to leave the national teams. The coaches have also seen some significant changes with big names such as Raymond Domenech looking for greener pastures. Marcello Lippi has also found different things to occupy him. This has been a cup of changes and perhaps it will all turn out to be for the best.
In assessing the Soccer FIFA World Cup 2010 we have to recognize the impact of the upsets. Spain made it to the top and Netherlands were denied once more. Ghana was cruelly denied by some dodgy penalty kicks. We then had the debacle of the great European nations that failed to make it. Brazil was shocked as was the rest of the world when they did not go through to the finals.
